• Staff: 7.5 Most staff very good. Barman refused to serve people at 10.45 when bar is open till 11.00

• Room: 7.5 We had a room with a roof terrace which slightly reduced the size of the room but was worth it, though view is uninspiring. Good bathroom and comfortable bed.

• Positive: Alex, Manel, Domingo, and the extremely helpful desk man, who gave us very easy to follow directions to a great tapas bar on the other side of the Plaza Mayor. The people who work at the Carlos V are simply great, energetic, hospitalable, funny... I could go on
• Negative: Although the breakfast buffet was very fine, I think it was a little overpriced.
